Specialist Subjects

Students study these subjects for one hour a week:

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)

At Ceres Primary School, our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program inspires curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through hands-on, inquiry-based learning. By integrating these disciplines, students develop essential skills for the 21st century, including problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation.

Our approach encourages students to take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, and embrace the creative process. Through real-world projects and partnerships with local organisations, students make meaningful connections between their learning and the world around them.

Key elements of our STEAM approach include:
– Critical thinking and problem-solving
– Initiative and entrepreneurship
– Curiosity and imagination
– Collaboration between students, networks, and the wider community

At Ceres Primary School, learning is not confined to the classroom—it is an ongoing journey of discovery, growth, and innovation.

Visual Arts

At Ceres Primary School, our Visual Arts program is a fun and engaging experience where students explore their creativity, express ideas, and develop artistic skills in Art, Craft, and Design. Through hands-on activities, they experiment with a wide range of materials, techniques, and digital technologies, creating artworks that communicate, challenge, and inspire.

Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, our program encourages students to explore different artistic styles and cultures while refining their own unique artistic voice. Beyond the classroom, students have opportunities to showcase their talents by entering the Geelong Show Art Competition and participating in the City of Greater Geelong’s Christmas Tree Program, fostering a sense of community pride and artistic achievement.

With a focus on creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression, our students take part in collaborative projects and school-wide art showcases. At Ceres Primary School, we celebrate every child as an artist, nurturing their passion for creativity in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Performing Arts

At CERES Primary School, our Performing Arts program enables students to experience, develop, represent, and understand ideas, emotions, values, and cultural beliefs through Music, Dance, and Drama. Students are encouraged to take risks, be imaginative, explore alternative solutions, share opinions, and refine their techniques while reflecting on their own and others' work.

Each semester, students participate in a varied Performing Arts program, engaging in weekly timetabled sessions aligned with the Victorian Curriculum framework for The Arts. Through collaborative class activities, they explore and express ideas, present and perform artworks, and respond to and interpret performances. Our program nurtures creativity, confidence, and collaboration, inspiring a love for the arts while supporting personal expression and growth.

Physical Education

At Ceres Primary School, our Physical Education program promotes an active, healthy lifestyle while developing fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Delivered by a specialist teacher, our sequential PE program provides students with engaging, skill-building experiences tailored to their year level, ensuring progression and confidence in physical activity.

In Junior Primary, students participate in an explicit fundamental movement skills program, focusing on body awareness, balance, and basic throwing, catching, and kicking techniques. Through small group activities, music, and games, students build the foundation for safe, successful, and enjoyable physical participation.

In Middle Primary, a game-sense approach is introduced through familiar sports such as AFL, soccer, basketball, netball, and Tee-ball. Students refine their movement skills and develop strategic thinking in a fun, engaging environment.

In Upper Primary, students expand their skills by participating in a variety of sports. Lessons focus on skill development, game strategy, understanding positions and rules, and embracing different roles in sport, with an emphasis on sportsmanship, teamwork, and effort.

Our PE curriculum is aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and supported by funding from the Sporting Schools initiative, enabling access to expert coaching clinics and modern sporting equipment. At Ceres Primary School, we believe in the power of movement to support learning, health, and social development, ensuring all students thrive in an active, inclusive, and dynamic environment.
